SatData Rail

SatData Rail is a complete internet solution for trains, built around Starlink, a powerful router with true bonding and certified rail antennas from Huber Suhner. The casing is static and robust, while the components inside the SatData itself are dynamically decoupled to absorb extreme vibrations and shocks on the track. The result: stable internet in trains up to 300 km/h, suitable for passenger Wi-Fi, security systems, telemetry, and mission-critical connections.

Complete Starlink internet solution for trains up to 300 km/h

  • Starlink internet on trains up to 300 km/h (update March 2026)
  • Large router with true bonding for Starlink 4x 5G/4G/LTE
  • Rail-specific 5G/4G/LTE antennas for optimal coverage
  • Static enclosure, dynamically decoupled SatData against vibration
  • CE-marked and rail-certified where necessary

Why SatData Rail for internet on trains up to 300 km/h?

Since March 2026, Starlink has officially supported use in vehicles up to 300 km/h. This opens the door to high-quality satellite internet connections in high-speed and regional trains. However, a Starlink antenna on the roof alone is not enough for a reliable rail solution.

SatData Rail combines:

  • Starlink as primary satellite connection
  • A large professional router with true bonding and VPN capabilities
  • 5G/4G/LTE modems as additional and backup connection
  • Rail antennas from Huber Suhner, specifically developed for the rail sector
  • A static, robust enclosure with an internally dynamically suspended SatData vibration-reducing module

This creates a complete system designed for the reality of the railway: high speeds, continuous vibrations, temperature fluctuations, and strict standards.

What can we do for you?

Static enclosure, dynamically constructed SatData

Static enclosure, dynamic structure – designed for rail vibrations

In a train, vibration is not the exception, but the standard. That is why SatData Rail is constructed differently from a standard IT rack or cabinet.

Static, robust rail enclosure The outer housing of SatData Rail is statically and mechanically firmly connected to the vehicle. This enclosure is designed to meet rail requirements regarding shocks, vibrations, and fire safety, and can be mounted on the roof, chassis, or in a technical room.

Dynamically decoupled SatData module inside Inside the enclosure, the SatData module – router, bonding unit, power supply, and interfaces – is dynamically suspended. By using vibration dampers and floating mounting points, a large portion of the vibrations is absorbed. This significantly improves the lifespan and reliability of the electronics, even during prolonged use in high-speed trains.

Optimized for maintenance and service. The internal layout is modular: the router, bonding unit, modems, power supply, and cabling are clearly arranged and easily accessible for service. This minimizes downtime during maintenance and makes upgrades—for example, to new modems or additional interfaces—simple.

Starlink as the high-bandwidth primary connection

SatData Rail uses Starlink as its primary internet connection. Thanks to support up to 300 km/h, Starlink can deliver high bandwidth and low latency on trains over long routes, even in areas where mobile networks are less reliable.

router with true bonding

At the heart of SatData Rail sits a large, professional router with real bonding. This router:

  • Bundles Starlink, 5G, and 4G/LTE into one logical connection
  • Distributes traffic across multiple lines for higher reliability and throughput
  • Automatically switches to another connection in the event of a single connection failure, without noticeable interruption
  • Can provide VPNs, QoS, and segmentation for passenger Wi-Fi and internal systems

No “marketing bonding”, but real bonding at the package level, suitable for real-time applications such as VoIP, cameras, and remote desktop.

CE marking and rail certification

CE-marked and, where necessary, rail-certified

A train environment is subject to strict requirements. Therefore, SatData delivers not only a technically functional solution, but also a system that is normatively sound.

CE marking of the complete system All SatData Rail systems are CE marked in accordance with the relevant directives. Even if you use already CE-marked components – such as a Starlink antenna, router, or modems – you remain responsible for the CE conformity of the assembled system. SatData assists with:

  • Risk analysis and technical file
  • Documentation and manuals
  • Correct labeling of the composite product

Additional rail certification where necessary. For certain rail projects, additional standards and test reports are required (for example, regarding EMC, fire, vibrations, and shocks). SatData can:

Align the hardware configuration with applicable rail standards

Collaborating with test laboratories for additional measurements

If desired, develop customer-specific variants that meet your rail standard.

Customer-specific SatData Rail models

No rail project is identical. Therefore, SatData develops customer-specific SatData Rail models:

  • Various dimensions and shape factors of the casing
  • Specific router and modem configurations (number of SIMs, redundancy)
  • Additional interfaces (Ethernet, PoE, serial ports, digital I/O)
  • Integration with existing systems in the train
  • Different supply voltages and power budgets

You tell us what you need; we turn it into a complete, tested system that is ready for integration into your train or rail project.
